What is Joules Law or Joules heating?

What is Joules Law or Joules heating?

✓ Resistive heating , also known as ohmic heating and Joule heating , is the process of power dissipation.

✓ The passage of an electric current through a conductor increases the internal energy of the conductor converting thermodynamic work into heat.

✓ The phenomenon was first studied by James Prescott Joule in 1841.

✓ By varying length of the wire and electric current he deduced that the heat observed was proportional to the square of the current multiplied by the electric resistance of the wire. P is directly proportional to I^2 multiple of R.

This relationship is known as Joule's Law.
✓ The SI unit of energy was subsequently named the joule and given the symbol 'J'. The  known SI unit of power, the watt (W) is equivalent to one joule per second.
