What is 1G? What is 1st generation wireless network?

 1G refers to the 1st generation of wireless cellular technology.

These are the analog communications standards that were introduced in the 1980s.

The audio transmissions of 1G network was analog.

1G systems uses digital signaling to connect the radio towers to the rest of the telephone system,

1G network is only modulated to higher frequency, typically 150 MHz and up.

History:

The 1st commercially cellular network (1G network) was launched in Japan by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) in 1979, initially in the metropolitan area of Tokyo. But in next five years, the NTT network had been expanded to cover the all over Japan and became the first nationwide 1G network.

The NMT system were launched in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in 1981. NMT was the 1st mobile phone network to provide international roaming communication medium.

A limited NMT service in Russia 1G cellular network still in operation as of 2021.
